Entry Registration is Open
This competition is open to any mead maker age 21 or older. All entries must be home crafted meads made on personal equipment. Meads produced in a commercial facility or on equipment owned by a meadery are ineligible.
Judging will be done by the friendly faces over at Doin' The Most, Man Made Mead, and Faewood Mead this summer.
All mailed entries must be received at the mailing location by the shipping deadline - please allow for shipping time.
The competition organizers are not responsible for mis-categorized entries, mailed entries that are not received by the entry deadline, or entries that arrived damaged.
Brewers are not limited to one entry in each category but may only enter each subcategory once.
You may not enter the same mead in more than one category.
The competition committee reserves the right to combine overall style categories based on number of entries. All possible effort will be made to combine similar styles. All brews in combined categories will be judged according to the style they were originally entered in.
Judging will be done in (up to) three rounds, an initial round for scoring, a mini-BOS to determine the category winners, and a final Best Of Show round to determine the best mead out of all first place medalists. A fresh bottle will be used for each round.
Due to allergies and/or preferences of the hosts, the following items are prohibited from being used in entries: Any cannabis based products, kiwi, breadfruit, cilantro, meat or seafood based items (with the exception of fining agents such as chitosan)
Rookie of the Year: A rookie of the year will be chosen using a best of show style panel of the top 10 scoring meads from qualified entrants across all categories. In order to qualify as a rookie this must be your first year entering Mead Stampede. Additionally, you must not have received a medal (3rd place or higher) for any mead in a competition with over 50 mead entries. [i.e. Small club competitions and larger homebrew competitions with a relatively low volume of mead entries will not disqualify you.]
Shipping Location will be provided once the shipping window opens
Entry Acceptance Rules
An entrant is considered as one or more people at least 21 years of age submitting an entry.
Each entry will consist of three (3) capped or corked bottles that are void of all identifying information, including labels and embossing. Printed caps are allowed, but must be blacked out completely.
Entries should be in standard beer (12 oz crown cap) or wine (375ml corked) glass bottles. 187ml bottles will also be accepted. Screw tops and t-corks should not be used.
Bottles will not be returned to contest entrants.
All requisite paperwork must be submitted with each entry and can be printed directly from this website. Entry paperwork should be attached to bottles by the method specified on the bottle label.
Be meticulous about noting any special ingredients that must be specified. Failure to note such ingredients may impact the judges' scoring of your entry.
Any entry the smells off, gushes excessively, arrives opened, or appears to be tampered with will not be judged.
Any submissions not meeting the above guidelines will not be eligible for awards.
